Novine History > The Nennings

As their numbers grew due to recurrent Bremian immigrations the Novine settlers would eventually begin to expand their knowledge of the new world. Seeking other civilizations with whom to share both commerce and technology the Novines came across the first signs of another native people – the Nennings. Among the native people in Cailorubia the Nennings are perhaps the most impressive. They are tall people slender built with long sinewy arms and legs standing more than 6 feet tall. These gangling giants mostly inhabit the northern wastelands and are said to be numerous on the lichen-plains of the east. Nennings are a tough and enduring people carefully adapted to the toilsome life in the northern wastes. Often thought of as a barbaric people the Nennings prefer a simple life rather than building great cities. Yet in their past Nennings were said to have ruled most of the known world with their endurance and strength.

I travelled to the villages of the Nenning people for I had heard of them from bremian hunters. I found them high above the forests in the hills to the north. They welcomed me with meat and brew as they saw fit for a weary traveller and I tried to speak with their elders. I took great care not to stir their wrath for I had been told that the nennings were a strange people – stout and easily caught by anger. I sat with them for many hours and watched their odd customs. Their faces are like animals, yet they are tall and walk upright like men. They have languages and literature like us but they care only little for religion. Instead the nennings place great effort in warfare. There are many tribes and they are continuously making war on each other as if it was their nature to brawl and squabble. I left soon after praying that these people would not become our enemies.
