Novine History > The Fall of Man

I have done as ye bade me, oh Evolved One. I have followed our Bremian breeders into the eastern edges of the world to where they were seemingly drawn in great numbers. I now know why for a new strain of their ilk has come to our domain. This paltry people call themselves the Novines and I am told they consider themselves more civilized than our beloved brem-folk. I have called hither our underlings to quell them. Heu Hläggon, I shall not fail the evolved ones. Within a fortnight the weaklings will fall to us and we shall take their females to the nests and strengthen our numbers for I sense that the old ones have awoken and will soon emerge.
- Hvesv Mnäggjo, Trusted One of the Gileha Seed

It was in the early days when the Novines had merely begun their slow and tiresome advance through the towering rainforests of the Avoa – unwary of what waited ahead. A religious strife had torn the settlers apart leaving them scattered, divided and above all – unprepared for the grim event that would soon shatter the early colonies! Having watched the newcomers for some time a hostile civilization known as the Gleyks would suddenly launch an attack. The Gleyks came from out of nowhere and in great numbers. They attacked the Novine settlements like a wasp delivering a deadly sting. Overwhelmed by the power of their attackers the scattered Novine societies quickly fell under the black rule of this strange alien race. Most of the early cities were destroyed and villagers were brought back as slaves. A dark age then began that would last for centuries and forever mark the Novine civilization.

And so came the second fall of man as foretold by the prophet. He who was once cast out by the Lord shall return to plague the chosen people with malice. So came the poisoner and he took the form of a great beetle, the scarab. Suffering and despair are his companions and he shall bring his wrath upon us through the six-legged people. Such is the will of the twins who will bring wisdom only to the faithful. He who carries with him the words of truth shall walk unhindered through swarms of scarabs, so say the prophet.
- The Book of Martyrs 2.6-7
