For centuries war shook the mossy trees of the Avoa, fallen soldiers piled high under their roots and clouds of pestilence and war drifted across the world. Words of victory echoed in the wilderness and the war known as that of the scarabs eventually spread to the thrall cities of the Novines. It is said that during the Scarab Wars numerous plagues rained down on the Gleyk empire – the Inner Sea rose to consume the lands near it – flaming rocks falling from the skies scorched the great cities and the forest itself turned against the wicked rulers. Myths have it that an old people had returned from their sleep – arisen to fight the Gleyks as they had done in the dawn of time. These mysterious beings were like huge serpents only slender and fair like gods. A curvy crown of antlers garnished their heads, the hair was like barbed tails of weed hanging from the head in flossy, messy ringlets and three braids meandered across the creature’s back. This people who called themselves the Meia fought the six-legged with great fury as they arose from the lakes of the lowlands and with their emergence ended the rule of the scarabs. Peace returned to the new world yet the Old Ones were gone as were the Gleyks. Prophecies were uttered that they would one day return to mark a day of great conflict – the Harrumahettuna – the end of all things.
